Community Retention Incentive Initiatives
Better access… in their language
The McGill Training and Retention of Health Professionals Project contributes to Quebec’s initiatives to ensuring English-speaking Quebecers have access to the full range of health and social services in their own language through measures designed to build and maintain a sufficient complement of health and social services personnel capable of providing services in English. The project is an additional tool to support the implementation and enhancement of regional programs of access to health and social services in English as provided for in the Act respecting health and social services.
The objectives are to ensure English-speaking people receive effective communication in their language from the health and social services professionals serving their needs and to increase the number of English-speaking professionals working in the health and social services system.

Investing Towards the Future of Health and Social Services in Laval
Agape’s retention project aims at creating awareness of the needs of the English Speaking Community of Laval, increase understanding and promoting careers in the health and social services area through collaboration with various key partners. With Agape’s current partnerships, the expansion of these partnerships will be sought, in quantity and quality. In doing this, Agape and the English speakers of Laval will have a better sense of belonging and more of a stake in their broader community.
Promotion activities with the education network
Agape will increase understanding for the need of additional English speaking health and social service professionals in our Laval institutions with the collaboration of educational networks and health and social services networks. We will work with Competency and Development Centers (CDC Pont-Viau, CDC Vimont), public and private high schools such as Laval Senior Academy High School and North Star Academy (private) High School Laval.
Senior high students will be identified with the help of our school partners (principals and career counsellors) who are potentially interested in the health and social services fields. We will organize field trips and contribute to school career fairs at our local high schools.
We hope that by this work we can provide graduating students with a better understanding of the health and social service fields and spark an interest to pursue these fields of study.
